HOME
A minimalist collection of mixed media oil paintings inspired by simplicity, belonging, place, and tactility.
My attachment to home started when I was born.

Whenever I ask my parents about my upbringing as a child in Poland, they (sigh, roll their eyes, laugh, and) recall the troubles they incessantly had with taking me anywhere outside of our house. Apparently my strong will was innate from the womb, as I wouldn't stop crying until we neared the end of my gravel road and I came to recognize the familiar gate and profile of the structure I knew to be home. It's then that I would apparently light up and shout "domka!" (home) — ostensibly at ease with recognizing that which I knew to be familiar, warm, and safe.
My first home in Padew, Poland as it was being constructed by my grandfather, 1964.
There is something about the telling of this story each time that stirs up the deepest of emotions.

An inherent sense of familiarity comes to the surface.
A deep-rooted sense of belonging, but also longing —
to be brought back to that very place, and perhaps time.
A profound sense of comfort from this context.
A time of simplicity and togetherness.
A beautiful appreciation and profound sense of gratitude for acknowledging my upbringing. My roots. My home.
While I may not personally recall these memories, I know for them to be innately true, resonating deeply with my whole spirit.
