MY PERSONAL BRAND STORY
studio domka is my digital and spiritual home — a creative outlet for all that inspires me in my profession as a freelance designer, maker, and artist.
It is rooted in my early, intimate associations of warmth, comfort, nostalgia, and belonging from my first dwelling space in Poland. Through it, I share a piece of self, and in turn seek to inspire others to discover the meaning of home in their own lives. Because to live a life with more home, means to live a more mindful, fulfilled, and beautiful life.
With a focus on aesthetics and simplicity, its content encourages slowing down and appreciating the seemingly ordinary moments and often-overlooked details in our everyday. Whether that is a natural morning-light-filled kitchen space, an oil-splotched brush stroke found in an abstract painting, a stack of weathered photos from an old family album, or the charming hole-in-the-wall coffee shop you unexpectedly discover on your next city venture. There is a sense of home to be found all around us. A *bit extra* stillness, mindfulness (and inspiration) may just be required.
Additionally, I’ve considered and integrated the beautiful takeaways from my intimate home story and immigrant experience as a child into this platform — imbuing a piece of self and my personal associations of dwelling in all that I share. This digital space that is studio domka is quite literally my home — a little corner of the internet for housing (pun intended) all that brings me joy, instills comfort, and captures the slow beauty and intentional details I’m discovering in my everyday.

HOW IT STARTED
During my Master's of Architecture thesis year, I became fascinated with exploring the meaning of home in our lives, and how certain architectural qualities - such as light, texture, material, scale, and weight - can greatly influence our associations and perceptions of dwelling.
Beyond the physical attributes of protection and warmth lie deeper, more intimate notions of home - notions of nostalgia and personal sentiment, of comfort and the familiar, of full body haptic experiences - all of which can be profoundly influenced by these qualities. studio domka was born from the desire to explore the translation of these architectural elements into my work as a designer, maker, and artist. It is named after my first home, where my creative spirit was born.
After graduating from architecture school in 2015 and navigating my first year of 9-5ing, I quickly recognized the lack of creative expression that came with my career in construction administration at the time. I longed for the everyday opportunities for making and desperately missed the collaborative energy that was innate to studio culture. So I converged my thesis research, appreciation of minimalist design, and admiration for stationery to create an outlet to capture my creative explorations in these subjects.
Since its inception, studio domka has grown to more broadly encompass my design interests and bodies of work both personally and professionally, most recently within my current profession as a freelance designer at the start of 2021. I now view this platform as an extension of my personal brand and outlet for all of my design creations and musings - both handmade and digital alike.
