Inspired by the delicacy, softness, and femininity of pressed florals for this month’s moodboard, I inherently knew I wanted to incorporate them in some way for May’s bedroom gallery series.

Earlier this month for Mother’s Day, I crafted this card for my mom, using a few simple layered pieces of vellum and cold-pressed water color paper as a subtle, most-minimalist backdrop for displaying a beautiful pressed flower, which I intentionally wanted to garner *most* of the attention (the irresistibly-adorable snapshot of yours truly with the sibling and mother was a close-second). I loved the simplicity of this card so much, and admired the balance of all of the elements together in this piece — paper / photo / jute rote / tape / floral /seeing it almost as a mini handmade-mixed-media collage.

With this “minimalist collage” intention in mind, I wanted to translate this approach from card to more ‘artistic’ pieces for display for this month’s bedroom gallery initiative. The result turned out to be a mini-series of simple, pressed-floral-on-paper creations. Using only 1/4” artist’s tape, I composed each flower on an offset sheet of Astroparche, layered against a coldpressed watercolor sheet (my favorite, forever and ever).

The finished result is simple and delicate, and lends a softness to my bedroom for the weeks ahead that I don’t foresee myself tiring of anytime soon.
